Nature Versus Nurture Within a Violent Adult’s Child Development A majority of adulthood can account for how an adult was as a child. During these important developmental stages humans are incredibly inclined to absorb their environment and the social norms of those surrounding them. However, nature versus nurture is the theory I which debates whether humans are more impacted by their genetics or how they were raised. I am exceptionally interested in the development of children and how their environment and genetics impact them as adults. I chose this specific topic because I am also interested in the past of violent adults and how they arrived at the place they currently are mentally. Unsurprisingly, most serial killers have experienced a childhood filled with various amounts of violenc e or abuse. Violence and abuse can be detrimental to the development of a child, especially during their sensitive stages. Sensitive stages are when a child is more apt to learn something and strengthen their brain. The reason these stages are so detrimental are because the social norms learned during this time become habitual. Abuse can have a large spectrum. Abuse can be defined as neglect throughout childhood, whether that is emotional, physically, or both. Abuse can also be violent acts toward the child or a spouse. Violence can vary from sexual abuse to physical abuse or both. These factors are the foundations of a child who may have violent tendencies when they grow into adulthood. Secondly, children with an uninvolved family environment are especially inclined for a violent future. The reasoning behind this statement expressed by the authors is because the children are often forced to undergo the role of the caretaker when they are young. This causes a difficult childhood and can cause the yearn for revenge. This yearn for revenge can often become violence.
